Thanks to gene technology, tear-free onions will very likely be available at supermarkets around the world starting in 2017!
Is this a good thing? I'm not so sure. Perhaps the enzyme that causes us to tear up plays other important yet currently unknown) role in the onion's overall nutrition package.
